The University of Central Arkansas was founded in 1907, as The Arkansas State Normal School. In 1975, after changing its name several times during the years, the State Department of Higher Education suggested that it should be called The University of Central Arkansas, and the name remained the same today.
The university grew in the past years and it is now the choice of over 10 000 students. Tours are available for visitors, but only by appointments. Fall tours are available from Monday to Friday, between 10 am and 1 pm. There are 21 Greek organizations on campus in which students can participate, containing 3 councils: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Panhellenic Council (NPC) and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
The university is offering numerous degrees, including Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning, Art, Linguistics and many others. There are exchange programs that give the students the opportunity to study abroad. The Intramural sports program, provided by the Department of Campus Recreation within the Division of Student Services, is offering male and female students, the option to interact in sports activities covering areas like football, tennis, basketball and badminton.
